While I’ve been able to enjoy some delicious and perfectly cooked restaurant steaks in my life, there’s nothing more satisfying than making an amazing meal yourself at home.  And given the number of times I’ve paid an amount equal to a small mortgage payment for a restaurant meal, only to be disappointed, I feel like cooking at home is a much better bet.  With a high quality cut of meat and a few tips and tricks, you can make a dinner at home that will blow your mind.

Besides the delicious food, cooking at home can be really fun! At our house, we get the whole family involved.  My son is great with helping keep dishes cleaned up and my daughter likes to help with the veggies.  My husband usually isn’t home from work early enough during the week, so on the weekends he likes doing the cooking on the grill.  We love coming up with new recipe ideas!  We will often make a bunch of food and have it for leftovers to munch on for lunches for the entire week.

Why ribeyes are great for grilling:

Many people love making ribeyes in a cast iron skillet, which is also delicious, but I think ribeyes are also great for grill, especially if cooked just right.  I like to cook mine on my Traeger pellet grill at a medium temp to get a nice smoky flavor and tender meat.

  • ribeyes have great fat marbling and tons of flavor
  • they are usually a little thicker and will hold up well to grilling
  • they don’t need much seasoning because they have so much flavor, so they are simple to make

How to grill a ribeye:

  1. a light coating of your favorite steak seasoning on both sides is all you need.  About 1-2 teaspoons per steak depending on your preference.
  2. let the steak come to room temperature before grilling
  3. preheat your grill to a medium high temp (I usually chose 325-350 degrees F)
  4. add steaks off center from the flame because with all the fat it could drip down and cause a flare up that could ruin your steak
  5. use a meat thermometer and take it off right when you steak reaches the desired done temp – I suggest medium for best flavor and tenderness

Ready to make this a complete meal?

It may be a bit predictable or trite, but in my opinion you can’t go wrong with a nice starch and a nice veggies to go along with a steak.  To keep it simple, you can toss on my grilled “baked” potatoes with your steak and then grab your pressure cooker to make some corn on the cob or just add a nice cucumber tomato salad for those hot summer days!
