Why should I make chili with turkey?

Substituting ground turkey for beef in chili is a healthy option for those who are monitoring their fat consumption or counting calories. The leanest cut of beef has 5% fat. But, you can easily find a 99% fat-free turkey at grocery store. While 99% fat-free turkey has far fewer calories than beef, the 85/15 versions of both meats have nearly the same calories. Since both meats have nearly the same amount of protein, substituting turkey for beef in chili is an excellent choice for health-conscious cooking.

Ingredients

Which kind of pepper should I add to my chili? There are many different kinds of chili peppers that people choose to add to chili. I add jalapeno and poblano peppers to my Turkey Chili because I like the subtle kick they give to the chili’s overall flavor.

What is ancho chili powder? Ancho chili powder is made from dried poblano peppers. It has mild to medium heat, and when mixed with cumin, ancho chili powder gives your Turkey Chili a smoky flavor.

Can I add extra veggies to my Turkey Chili? Absolutely! Give your chili a nutrient boost by adding carrots or squash to the mix.

Preparation

How do I remove ribs and seeds from peppers? Simply use a paring knife to cut each pepper into quarters, then cut away the seeds and ribs. This will ensure that the chili doesn’t get too spicy. Leave a few in there if you’d like a “hotter” dish.

Should I use the chili setting on my Instant Pot? For this recipe we are simply using the basic high pressure setting.

Serving Suggestions

What’s the best way to serve Turkey Chili? Most people serve Turkey Chili topped with cheese and sour cream, Offering crushed tortilla chips as a topping will give your chili some more texture and crunch. If you’re feeling adventurous, do what my family does: top your Turkey chili with tater tots!
