Air Fryer Hush Puppies (Gluten Free Option)

Air Fryer Hush Puppies are just like the hush puppies you can get at your favorite restaurant, but lighter and healthier! You won't believe how easy they are to make at home!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk can use dairy free milk like cashew milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour gluten-free flour if desired
  • 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal gluten free if desired
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup finely diced sweet onion
  • Avocado oil spray

Instructions

  • Whisk together milk and egg and set aside
  • Mix together flour, cornmeal, seasonings, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl
  • Slowly stir in milk mixture until combined well
  • Stir in onions and let set for 5 minutes
  • Spray basked of air fryer with cooking spray
  • Form into small (ping pong sized) balls and place in single layer in air fryer, being sure they don't touch
  • Cook at 390 degrees for 8-10 minutes, flipping once and spraying as needed with additional avocado oil

Notes

  • Gluten-free option: substitute gluten-free flour and ensure cornmeal is gluten-free
  • Dairy-free option:  substitute unsweetened milk (almond or cashew) for cow's milk
  • Recipe can be easily doubled
