Italian Sausage in the air fryer is a simple base that turns into a delicious meal - all in one basket! Juicy sausage cooks to perfection with a crispy exterior, and the optional peppers and onions add perfectly roasted sweetness. Serve the sausage links and veggies over rice or on a sandwich roll for an easy meal on busy nights!
Lightly spray air fryer basket with avocado oil spray if desired
Place sausages in a single layer in air fryer basket
(Optional) In a small bowl, toss sliced peppers and onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then add them to one side of air fryer basket
Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping sausages and stirring veggies halfway through, until sausages are browned and cooked through (160℉ for pork, 165℉ for chicken or turkey)
Remove sausages and let them rest 3-5 minutes before slicing
Serve with roasted peppers and onions over cooked rice, or on a sandwich roll
Notes
Store leftover sausage and veggies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Freeze cooked sausage for up to 3 months, and freeze any veggies separately for the best texture.
Reheat in the air fryer at 350 ℉ for 4-5 minutes, or microwave until warmed through.
Smaller sausages cook faster; thicker ones may take up to 14 minutes.
Pierce the sausages with a toothpick to prevent bursting.
To prevent the air fryer from smoking, place a sheet of parchment paper or a small piece of bread under the basket.
For crispier skin, raise the heat to 390 ℉ for the final 2 minutes.
Let the sausages rest before slicing to keep juices in.
