The key to making the best and fluffiest jasmine rice is the Instant Pot! It’s an easy solution for perfectly cooked rice that you can pair with your favorite dishes. Follow these simple steps for Instant Pot jasmine rice that turns out light and flavorful every time.
What’s To Love About This Recipe
- Jasmine rice is a wonderful textured rice with a slight aroma and flavor. The long grains are moderately sticky and delicious with sauces, curries, and stir-fries.
- Using the Instant Pot for jasmine rice is the quickest, most foolproof method that I’ve found (and believe me, I’ve tried a LOT!).
- The simple measurements are easy to remember – just use equal portions of dry rice and liquid. The Instant Pot times the recipe perfectly, so there’s no need to watch boiling water on the stove or use a rice cooker.
- Jasmine rice is easy to cook ahead and store in meal prep containers or freeze in individual servings. You’ll love the option to make a big batch in the Instant Pot while you cook other dishes to serve with it.
Ingredients Needed
Making rice in the Instant Pot is so simple and will free up your focus for other flavorful proteins, sauces, or dishes on your menu. For this recipe, use a regular (metric) measuring cup and NOT the one that typically comes with your Instant Pot.
You’ll need:
- Jasmine rice – Jasmine rice is a long-grain variety that originated in Thailand. It has the best light and fluffy texture. Use 2 cups of dry rice to make approximately 6 cups of cooked rice.
- Water – Add 2 cups of water to equal the 2 cups of dry rice.
As a variation, feel free to use broth to add more flavor or add up to 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the Instant Pot. However, neither is necessary to make light, slightly sweet rice.
How To Make Instant Pot Jasmine Rice
- Rinse the jasmine rice and drain it well.
- Add the rice and water to the Instant Pot.
- Cover the pot and set the valve to seal according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Set the pressure to high for 4 minutes (it will take about 10 minutes to reach the pressure).
- Once cooking has completed, allow for a 10-minute natural pressure release (don’t touch it for 10 minutes).
- Turn the valve to release the remaining pressure before removing the lid.
- Stir to fluff the rice before serving.
How To Serve Instant Pot Jasmine Rice
Jasmine rice is a staple for many Southeast Asian dishes, but it’s versatile enough to serve with anything that needs white rice.
Add some sliced scallions, butter, and salt and pepper to serve as a simple side, or create a bowl with Instant Pot Mongolian Beef or Air Fryer Orange Chicken. Instant Pot Butter Chicken or a vegetable curry would also be tasty options to serve over jasmine rice.
Storing and Reheating
Store leftover jasmine rice in an airtight container or bag in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also portion out servings and store them along with other proteins or sauces for ready-to-go meals. Reheat in the microwave or a skillet on the stove.
If you haven’t frozen leftover rice before, this is a great meal prep option! Store single servings of rice in freezer-safe containers or quart-sized freezer bags. Remove excess air if possible, and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
