Air Fried Onion Rings

Air Fried Onion Rings are easy to make and you control the ingredients! They can be made gluten-free with very little fuss if you’re health-conscious or serving someone who struggles with food sensitivities.
You’ll make these in your air fryer, so they’re not deep fried or greasy in any way. This recipe is a much healthier option for enjoying this classic comfort food.
Normally you can’t use a wet better in the air fryer. But Air Fried Onion Rings use a thick batter and the onion rings are coated in panko bread crumbs, making them the best and crispiest onion rings you’ve ever tasted!
Ingredients You’ll Need To Make Fried Onion Rings:
- sweet yellow onion
- gluten free flour
- gluten free beer
- all purpose seasoning
- gluten free panko bread crumbs
- Avocado oil spray
Use a sweet onion variety for best results.
You can swap out any gluten-free ingredients for the regular version.
How To Make Fried Onions In An Air Fryer…
- In a shallow bowl, mix flour with beer and seasoning until smooth (batter will be very thick)
- Prepare onion by removing ends and slicing into 1/2 inch rings (separate the rings)
- In another shallow bowl add the panko bread crumbs
- Pat onions dry with paper towel
- Dip each ring by hand into the beer mixture and move around to fully coat and shake off any excess
- Transfer to the panko and carefully sprinkle panko over the onion ring by hand
- Spray air fryer basket with avocado oil
- Add onion rings in single layer with plenty of spacing
- Spray tops with additional avocado oil
- Cook at 380 degrees for 6-8 minutes, then flip and continue cooking until golden brown, approximately 5-6 additional minutes
Make sure onion rings don’t touch in air fryer basket, cook in batches if needed.
Pro Tips…
Panko breadcrumbs work best for this recipe. You can swap out any gluten-free ingredient for regular. You’ll still have delicious results!
It’s easiest to use your fingers and get a little messy when coating the onions.
