No time for bland, dry chicken around here! Juicy Air Fryer Chicken Thighs are the weeknight dinner that makes your life simpler while maintaining maximum flavor. With the air fryer, the thighs are juicy on the inside and crispy and seasoned on the outside.

What’s To Love About This Recipe
- Need a quick and easy protein dish with just 3 ingredients? Seasoned chicken thighs are juicy and flavorful every time, thanks to the air fryer.
- Thighs are a great source of protein with more flavor than chicken breasts. It’s easier to keep this meal simple due to the natural dark meat flavor and added healthy fats. Plus, you’ll get no complaints about dry or tough chicken!
- Since the air fryer takes away the guesswork, this is the best option for a last-minute weeknight dinner. Simply test with your meat thermometer and you’ll get perfectly juicy chicken with a crispy exterior, ready to serve with your favorite sides.
- Use the seasoned thighs in plenty of other recipes such as salads, bowls, tacos, and more. These make a great meal prep option to bulk other recipes throughout your week!
- Customize the flavor by experimenting with different seasoning blends to work with various cuisines. Italian, ranch, herb and garlic, or Cajun seasoning blends are just a few for inspiration!
- Forgot to plan ahead for dinner? Enjoy a healthy protein that cooks in under 30 minutes with easy cleanup that keeps your evenings stress-free.
Ingredients Needed
- Boneless skinless chicken thighs – Boneless thighs cook quickly and stay juicy in the air fryer. If you prefer, trim excess fat for even cooking before adding them to the basket.
- Homemade fajita seasoning – This fajita seasoning is one of my homemade blends and adds bold, savory flavor without being too spicy. Chili powder, cumin, and dried cilantro are some of the key ingredients that give it its signature fajita flavor. Use your own mix or a store-bought version.
- Avocado oil spray – Avocado oil spray is an excellent option for air fryer cooking since it helps the seasonings stick to the meat and promotes browning without making the chicken greasy. It also helps prevent the chicken from sticking to the air fryer basket. I like using this brand with 100% avocado oil designed for high-heat cooking.

How To Make Air Fryer Chicken Thighs
- Spray the chicken thighs with a light coating of avocado oil spray.

- Sprinkle the chicken evenly with seasoning.

- Place in the air fryer basket.

- Cook at 380 ℉ for 10-15 minutes, flipping once, until cooked through.

Pro Tips
- Chicken is fully cooked at 165 ℉. Use an internal meat thermometer for the most accurate results.
- Flipping the chicken halfway through allows for more even cooking and crispier edges.
- For crispier chicken, pat the thighs dry before seasoning and avoid overcrowding the basket. This allows plenty of airflow to crisp all sides.
- Let the chicken thighs rest for 3-5 minutes after cooking to lock in the juices.
- Chicken can also be cooked from frozen; just add 5-7 extra minutes and remember to flip halfway.
Recipe Substitutions and Variations
- I prefer boneless thighs for convenience and ease of slicing for other meals, but bone-in thighs are also a good air fryer option. For bone-in, increase the cooking time by 5-8 minutes.
- If you prefer skin-on chicken thighs, you will get extra crispy chicken, but be aware that it might splatter more in the air fryer. Use a liner or parchment paper in the basket for easier cleanup.
- Try out different seasoning swaps to suit your taste or change up your dinner menu! Try ranch powder, Cajun Seasoning, Italian seasoning, lemon pepper, or BBQ blends or dry rubs. You could also go with a Greek seasoning or garam masala for a regional twist!
- If you don’t have avocado oil spray on hand, use an olive oil spray or skip the oil entirely for a lighter version. If you skip the oil, be sure to pat the chicken dry before seasoning to ensure that the spices stick to the meat.
How To Serve Air Fryer Chicken Thighs
Air fryer chicken thighs are super versatile and make a filling meal with practically any sides you choose!
Keep dinner simple and serve with roasted veggies, Air Fryer Red Potatoes, or Potato Salad. Air Fryer Hush Puppies and Corn on the Cob are also tasty additions that make a family-friendly, complete meal.
If you want to stay totally hands-free for dinner, prepare a pot of Jasmine Rice to serve with the chicken and call it a day!
Don’t forget, there are plenty of ways to put those leftovers to good use. If you prep a batch of chicken thighs early in your week, you can slice them to use in tacos, burrito bowls, wraps, or salads. Change up the flavor with a drizzle of hot sauce, BBQ sauce, Yum Yum Sauce, or a squeeze of lime.

Storing and Reheating
How To Best Store Leftovers
Fridge
Store cooled chicken thighs in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Slice them before serving for added convenience later.
Freezer
Since this recipe is centered around creating a crispy exterior, freezing isn’t recommended.
How To Best Reheat Leftovers
When you’re ready to reheat, add the chicken back to the air fryer at 350 ℉ for 4-5 minutes until completely warmed through. Another option is to microwave in short intervals with a splash of water for moisture, but you may lose some crispiness.
